Character Relationships

In the book In Cold Blood there are many characters introduced in the first part of the story those characters are Mr. and Mrs. Clutter, Dick, Perry, Bobby Rupp, Nancy, and Kenyon, Eveanna Jarchow, and Beverly, and other minor characters. These characters are all affected by the brutal slaughtering of Mr. and Mrs. Clutter, Nancy, and Kenyon. The Clutters from a far seem like the ideal American family; mom, dad, two kids (one boy one girl) who all love each other and share Sunday dinner every week. However once you get in to it you see how the Clutters aren’t nearly as together and perfect as they seem. Some examples of this is that Mr. and Mrs. Clutter don’t share the same bed or even the same room, and Nancy is always with her boyfriend Bobby Rupp who is the school basketball hero of whom Herb or Mr. Clutter like at first but later tells Nancy to see Bobby less because they would eventually breakup any way. Perry and Dick have hidden relationship that is similar to that of Brandon and Phillip in Alfred Hitchcock’s’ movie Rope. It is similar in the way that I believe that their sexual relationship may have been the singular reason for Perry’s help with Dick’s “Score”. The reason that I believe that they are gay and in a relationship is due to the odd language they use when talking to each other for example they call each other honey and sweet heart and darling as well as other “cutesy” words. After the murders Eveanna Jarchow and her sister Beverly became the heirs to their late father’s estate. The quote “six lives were ended with the murder of four” could mean either that the other two live could have been Perry and Dick or they could have been the older sisters who moved out who can’t get over the death of their family. My personal opinion is that the ones who died with the murder of the four is Dick and Perry because they were condemned to death. Also I believe that these murders cause one more death and that is the death of Truman Capote. That is my opinion feel free to make you own and respond.
