tensions in in cold blood

I think Capote adds a lot of tension to the first part of the book. While it is hard to read it without prejudice after watching the movie, "Capote", it still comes through. He ends the first descriptions of the Clutter family, with "little did he/she know it would his/her last day". This added tension because the reader already knows that Capote is writing about the murder of the clutter family. (the back cover reads, "on November 15, 1959, in the small town of Holcomb, Kansas, four members of the Clutter family were savagely murdered"). Because the reader knows what is going to happen, the long introductions seem tedious. Not only is there a long lead up to the murder, including the chapter title, "The last to leave them alive," mentions of Dicks "score"(14). After numerous descriptions of both the murderers and the killers, we do not get a description of the murder. It jumps straight from the murderers nearing Holcomb to a description a Nancy Clutter's friend, Nancy Ewalt, finding the bodies. this anti-climactic transition almost ruins the tension, but in a way heightens it, making the reader keep searching for a descr
